OLDER CHILDREN’S GYMNASTICS (9-12)
Level 1 - METEORS begin to jump into tumbling and primary beam, bars, and vaulting skills. Balance and flexibility exercises are presented, and agility is stressed. These gymnasts begin building strength and flexibility as well as learning and perfecting cartwheels, handstands, round offs, and bridges and more on floor. They will also work on kicking to a handstand on vault, pullovers and casts on bars, and rolls, basic walks, jumps, and turns on beam. Students achieve greater strength, flexibility and coordination and move forward with acrobatic skills as they are ready. Even from a galaxy away, one can see the control and strength they accomplish.
Level 2 - METEORITES take the skills learned in our beginner programs to the next level. Meteorites move quickly and accomplish more advanced balance and flexibility exercises, stressing more advanced floor work, tumbling and beam, bars and vaulting skills. These gymnasts will work on back extension rolls, back walkovers, front limbers, and building power in their round-offs. On the equipment, they will begin working skills such as on cartwheels and roundoff dismounts on beam, back hip circles, mill circles, and underswing dismounts on bars, and flatbacks on vault. Drills and progressions are emphasized to prepare our stars to succeed.
Level 3 - ASTERIODS should have a high level of strength and flexibility to be able to achieve advanced skills. In these programs students will build on all events with skills such as handstand pirouettes, back extension rolls, one handed cartwheels and front handsprings on floor, handstand flatbacks on vault, advanced jumps, leaps, and turns, handstands, and cartwheels on beam, and mill circles, glides, kips, and high bar work on uneven bars. This program will develop strength and coordination as well as team building and sportsmanship.
Level 4 - NOVAS are advanced students who display high levels of body awareness and the determination to improve. Through dills and skill progressions, students will gain new skills and begin connecting skills together to reach new heights. This will continue to challenge your child on the four disciplines of gymnastics. Students will work on front and back handsprings, round off back handsprings, aerials, uneven bar connections, front handsprings and half-on half-offs on vault.
